Men’s Golf Report

A cold and wet end of October claimed more than just a few late season rounds… it also resulted in the cancellation of our Men’s Closing Day. With that, only the Polar Bear remains on the official golf schedule for the 2011 Season. Let’s hope between now and course closing we get a brief respite from the wet weather to enjoy the final golf days of the season.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank this year’s members of the Golf Committee. Glen Stephenson, Drew Pare and I are all finishing our third and final seasons on the Golf Committee and will be spend a little more time chopping up the fairways and a little less in the Boardroom next year. Thanks for a great 3 years of service to Highland.

 This year’s Vice Captains Chris Osadca and Greg Shore will put in their final year in 2012 when Barry Langford takes over as the new Golf Captain. Stephen Arthurs and George Harris will serve as next year’s Vice-Captains.

And a special thanks to our resident pool expert Dan Colfax, who will finish his 4^th season as a member of the Golf Committee and to Bruce Patterson, our Board Liaison.

I’d also like to thank Mike Silver, Rick Pero, Tyler Valliant and all the Professional Shop staff for their tireless work and support of all of the Men’s Golf Events during the season. As well a big thanks to Karen Gilles, Amy Norton, Joan Lapkowski, Susan Quinn and Leo Larizza, all of whom I have gotten to know much better this year as I navigated my way through the golf season.

We hope you’ve enjoyed all of the year’s events, checked the Golf Committee Blog once in a while and had the chance to make fun of my ‘Highlander Videos’. Next year’s Men’s Golf Committee is in great hands and I’m already looking forward to 2012’s Opening Day!

Men's Closing Day - POSTPONED

Due to golf course conditions and the awful weather forecast, Men's Closing Day has been postponed.

We have tentatively rescheduled to Saturday, October 15 - 10:00AM Shotgun start.

If you are unable to attend the new date, please let the Pro Shop know in the coming weeks.

If you were not able to play on the original date but would like to play on October 15, you may still sign up.

Please read the 'Notes to the Parimutuals' (below) for clarification. If there any questions, concerns or mistakes with your payout, please let Mark Rogers know before Men's Closing Day. • In some cases, prizes were rounded up or down (no more than several cents) for payout convenience
• For the purposes of parimutuals, tie scores remain tie scores and junior golfers did not exist
• In ‘B’ Flight where no one selected the winner, ‘SHOW’ money was calculated and the balance added to ‘PLACE’
• In ‘C’ Flight where no one selected the 2^nd place finisher, ‘PLACE’ money was added to ‘WIN” pool
• In ‘D’ Flight there was only 1 ticket that selected any of the WIN, PLACE or SHOW finisher and claims the entire D prize pool
• The $200 for the Golf Committee was removed equally from each flight based on its percentage of the total prize pool

            (For example: $ 441 in wagering for Championship Flight represented 18.1% of the total prize pool therefore $ 37.65 (18.1% of 200) was deducted,leaving a Championship Flight Prize Pool of $ 403.35)

Cool weather and high winds greeted golfers for the final round of the 2011 Mens Club Championship.  John Crowther overcame those conditions to shoot an even par rouds of 71 to defend his title by two shots of over Men's Match Play Champion Matt Gowdy.

Participants of the Wednesday Night Men's League are reminded that this Wednesday August 31st is the final night of Men's League. 

Dinner will be provided for all particpants as part of their Men's League Registration Fee

Highland First Team to Qualify for Championship

Division B was a close between two London clubs: Highland and RiverBend.

The final match at Elmira however was no contest as Highland surged to victory with 64 total points versus 50 for RiverBend. Elmira and Brantford finished with 39 each.

PGA Championship Pool

This year's PGA Championship will be played

Thursday, August 11 - Sunday, August 14/11 

at Atlanta Athletic Club, John's Creek, Georgia

Entry Fee: $10 (cash please - attached to your entry)

Format: Choose 2 players from each listed category, plus 2 additional 'BONUS PICKs'

(Pool entry forms will be available in the Pro Shop and at the Bar Lounge beginning Saturday, August 6th) 

Please fill out your form, attach your entry fee and return TO THE PRO SHOP.

On Ladies Night (Tuesday) and Men's Night (Wednesday), feel free to drop off your entry to a Golf Committee Member as well.

The PGA Championship Pool is open to all Highland Members - enter soon and enter often !
