Men's Golf Report - July Highlander

Remember Robin..........Leslie and family, we will miss our games with Robin. We share your loss. Leslie, we look to see you on the course as we take solace with you.

Congratulations Norm Fitzpatrick on a major accomplishment. Norm shot his age this June,a solid 75. He shot it when it mattered( enough said). By the way, Norm shot his age last year as well.
Men's Smallman Matches went well at Sunningdale with the host squad nudging Highland into second place. Of note, Gerry Pendergrast and Alan Abley won 6 points each. Gord Hind was a last minute fill in and still won 5.5 points.

Best Ball weekend went well with great weather and a full field.

We look forward to hosting our Senior Invitational and Ryder Cup.

Our top male juniors are playing well and will be encouraged by Mike Silver to participate in our Club Match Play Championship . Good luck in qualifying .

Of special note, Gloria and Dan Costigan took great pride on their recent visit to Seaton Hall University in New Jersey. Michael Costigan(former club champion at Highland at the age of 17) was honored by being inducted into the school's Sports Hall of Fame. He was just the second golf athlete in school history to achieve that honour. Michael was Academic All American all four years at Seaton Hall. Please give your best to the proud parents. Gloria made a point of telling me of the great influence that Michael took from his years at Highland. She asked me to specifically mention Marion Witchell and Mike Silver for their time with Michael and for the great effort that they continue to put forth with our juniors .

The next big events for Men's Golf are the 6-6-6 Civic Weekend Monday (get a partner and sign up) and the Handicap Match Play Championship (could a junior pull off an upset....?).

In signing off, I must apologize for my confusion on the Neil brothers. It is Bill who is our esteemed President. I am sure that Bob, you could do a fine job if you had to step in (as if I could tell). I always get those Castro boys mixed up too!
